Independent Study

Standard 1: Understands and applies media, technology, techniques, and processes related to the visual arts
+ Applies media, techniques and processes with sufficient skill, confidence and sensitivity that one's intentions are carried out in artwork

Standard 2: Knows how to use the structures (e.g., sensory qualities, organizational principles, expressive features) and functions of art
+ Knows how elements and principles of design can be used to solve specific visual art problems

Standard 3: Knows a range of subject matter, symbols, and potential ideas in the visual arts
+ Applies various subjects, symbols and ideas in one's artwork

Standard 4: Understands the visual arts in relation to history and culture
+ Knows ways in which art is one of the greatest achievements of human beings

Standard 5: Understands the characteristics and merits of one's own artwork and the artwork of others
+ Identifies the intentions of those creating artworks

Standard 6: Understands connections among the various art forms, other disciplines and the world of work
+ Knows how characteristics of the arts vary within a particular historical period or style and how these characteristics relate to ideas, issues, or themes in other disciplines
+ Understands how elements, materials, technologies, artistic processes (e.g., imagination, craftsmanship) and organizational principles (e.g., unity and variety, repetition and contrast) are used in similar and distinctive ways in the various art forms
