Choir 2 grades 9-12

Standard 1:  Sings alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music
+ Sings in large and small groups with an understanding of choral techniques (e.g., blend, balance, intonation, rhythmic unity, etc.) appropriate to the assigned choral literature
+ Performs with an understanding of vocal technique (e.g., tone, breath management, vowel production, diction, articulation, resonance, and body alignment) a varied repertoire of vocal/choral literature of class B-A technical demands in 3 or more parts
+ Sings music representing a variety of genres, cultures, styles, and foreign languages with appropriate interpretation

Standard 2:  Performs on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music
+ Uses keyboard to play simple melodies


Standard 3:  Improvises melodies, variations and accompaniments
+ Improvises simple rhythmic and melodic variations on a given melody
+ Improvises in a selected style
+ Improvises a harmonic accompaniment
+ Improvises in various tonalities

Standard 4:  Composes and arranges music within specified guidelines
+ Composes and/or arranges an original melody and/or harmonic accompaniment within specified guidelines
+ Uses technology sources when composing and arranging

Standard 5:  Reads and notates music
+ Identifies, defines, and performs standard notation music symbols and terms (i.e., repeat signs, tempo, articulation, dynamics, etc.)
+ Reads and performs music of class B technical demand with accuracy and expression
+ Uses technology to read, notate, and record an idea

Standard 6:  Listens to, analyzes, and describes music
+ Aurally identifies and describes the elements of music (i.e., melody, harmony, rhythm, form, timbre, texture, and expression)
+ Listens to and describes how the elements of music are used to create mood and expression
+ Compares and analyzes musical characteristics from one style to another
 
Standard 7:  Evaluates music and music performances
+ Identifies and develops selected criteria for evaluating the quality and effectiveness of musical performances (i.e., tone, balance, intonation, technique, stage presence, musical affect and interpretation)
+ Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of their own and others' performances using selected criteria

Standard 8:  Understands the relationships between music, other arts, and disciplines outside the arts
+ Compares characteristics of two or more arts
+ Identifies ways in which the other fine arts (i.e., theater, dance, visual arts) and non-arts disciplines are interrelated with music

Standard 9:  Understands music as an integral part of history and culture
+ Identifies and performs representative examples of music from various historical periods and cultures and describes how they relate to historical and/or cultural events
+ Identifies uses of music in life and the characteristics that make the music suitable for those events
