Standard 1: Understands the factors that influence individual and cultural identity in various times and settings
+ Understands the groups to which a person belongs influence in varying degrees how he or she thinks and acts (7)
+ Knows that different groups and cultures have similar wants and needs (7)
+ Understands that "acceptable" human behavior varies from culture to culture and from one time period to another but there are some behaviors that are "unacceptable" in almost all cultures past and present (7)
+ Understands that rules and compromise can help resolve conflicts

Standard 2: Understands personal and civic rights and responsibilities and the purpose of rules, laws, and government
+ Understands the individual's responsibilities to family, peers, and the community (7)
+ Understands the importance of obeying a rule or law for the protection of individual rights and the common good (7)

Standard 3: Understands about production exchange, and consumption in order to make informed decisions
+ Knows the role that resources play in our daily lives
+ Understands the patterns and networks of economic interdependence on the Earth's surface (6, 7, 8)

Standard 4: Understands geography through the study of the relationships among people, places, and environments
+ Knows the basic elements of maps and globes (6)
+ Knows the location of the seven continents, four oceans, four hemispheres, and major countries (6)
+ Knows the physical and human characteristics of the local community (6)

Standard 5: Understands the concept of history, examining change and continuity over time in order to develop historical perspective, explain historical relationships, and analyze issues that affect the present and the future
+ Knows how areas of a community have change over time (8)
+ Knows how various holidays reflect the shared values, principles, and beliefs of Americans (not covered in 6, 7, 8)
